UP student kills self over tuition

MANILA, Philippines - She just wanted to finish her studies and help her four siblings. Kristel Tejada, however, still owed P10,000 in tuition for this semester at the University of the Philippines in Manila, where the 16-year-old was a behavioral science freshman.

2023

What gifts might you carry on a visit to our friends in Tanzania? Well, I packed some board games for

my first trip back since 2019. And a small book of photos for each person. Finally, colorful bookmarks with

Biblical quotations.

2024

Sebastian Marwa and I began working together about 8 years ago as teachers in an impoverished

area of Mwanza. When our school was closed, and shortly before I left Tanzania, we visited every

family we taught to ensure that the family could continue to educate their children. For those so

crushed by poverty that schooling was impossible, we offered our assistance. Then we invited our

American friends and family to join us. The response was beautiful

2025

Since accepting the role of teacher and missioner, though Maryknoll Lay Missioner Association, to a community of children in

Tanzania and their families 11 years ago, I have been blessed continuously to experience goodness--wild and wide--among this

community. I have also been inspired to experience the care and generosity of over one hundred American family members

and friends who have accompanied us as true sowers of hope. Thank you for your goodness. In this newsletter we highlight

three of the 20 students we sponsor
